The Rye House Plot of 1683 was a plan to assassinate King Charles II of England and his brother and heir, James, Duke of York. The owner of this scrapbook seems to have been doing historical research on the subject, with hand-written notes on Lord William Russell. That the historian was well-to-do is indicated by the use of this professional-looking, custom-made book with the subject of interest in gold lettering on the spine. Illustrations show the Rye House, Hertfordshire. Show more
