Title continues: "Performed in the Years 1821-22-23, in His Majesty's Ships Fury and Hecla, Under the orders of Captain William Edward Parry, R.N., F.R.S., and Commander of the Exp edition." Captain Parry's second voyage to the Arctic failed to discover a passage to the Pacific, but he managed to chart and explore a considerable area of the Arctic, previously unknown, stretching from Southampton Island north to Baffin Island. In addition, the almost continual contact with the Inuit of Melville Peninsula yielded a wealth of information on their culture, way of life, and language which was included in this published version of Parry's journal of the voyage.
