Elixir Stainless Steel Electric Bass Strings Elixir's original coated wound strings debuted at the 1997 NAMM Show and have since been released in new variations. Featuring an ultra-thin Nanoweb coating, Elixir strings offer superior sound quality and last three to five times longer than conventional strings. They offer the same bright, powerful sound as uncoated strings, with minimal finger noise. The special coating on the surface protects the strings from sweat and oils, setting a new standard for ultra-long-life bass strings. We've applied all of the technology we've cultivated in developing nickel-wound strings to create stainless steel strings that are suitable for a wide range of playing styles. The coating eliminates the harsh feel of stainless steel strings, a common weakness. The optimized tension and response speed combine to deliver a level of playability unmatched by previous stainless steel strings. Furthermore, while retaining the hard, aggressive sound quality of stainless steel, harsh overtones are shut out, providing a consistent tone even when stringed tight.
