SpaGuard Brominating Concentrate is a granular, pH-neutral sanitizer and oxidizer that generates bromine in the water without the pre-treatment some other bromine systems require (EPA Reg. No. 5185-376, Bio-Lab, Inc.). The formula combines sodium dichloro-s-triazinetrione (82.5%) with sodium bromide (14.7%) to produce active bromine that eliminates bacteria and the odors and irritation associated with poorly maintained spa water. For routine sanitizing, use 1 teaspoon per 200 gallons; for a stronger super-oxidizing or algae-control treatment, use 4 teaspoons per 200 gallons. This 2 lb container is meant to be run as a standalone bromine sanitizer system rather than combined with a salt or mineral-only setup, since it's the primary source of sanitizer in the water. As a corrosive oxidizer, it ships ground-only, and should be stored sealed and away from other pool or spa chemicals. Many spa owners prefer bromine over chlorine specifically because it stays effective at higher water temperatures and produces less of the sharp chemical odor associated with chlorine byproducts.
