From the discovery of Zildjian's unique alloy to today, the 400th anniversary of the company's founding, each model has an iconic design. In 1618, Avedis I, an Armenian alchemist living in Constantinople, discovered a secret process for processing the alloy and applied it to the production of cymbals of exceptional clarity and sustain. His unique blend of copper, tin, and silver is still used in Zildjian cymbals today. Alchemical symbols in the design represent each metal in this secret alloy, arranged in the shape of the cymbal.
