Illuminator Neck [DP256] (Black-Cream/Standard-Spaced) The Illuminator is a new generation signature pickup developed for Ernie Ball Music Man's John Petrucci signature guitar, the JP13™. John was looking for a versatile pickup that would allow him to achieve a variety of sounds with one guitar, one that would allow him to transition from a very tight, rhythmically aggressive, heavily overdriven sound to something "more expressive, dynamic and very fluid" when playing solos. Technical Note: John wanted his neck and bridge pickups to have separate, independent musical spaces that "speak" to each other, blending and existing on their own. The Illuminator™ Neck Model is louder, has more headroom, and has a wider frequency range than a typical vintage humbucker. It's transparent with a clean amp and warm when overdriven without becoming heavy or muddy. Generally, Gibson guitars use a standard pole piece spacing of 9.7mm, while guitars equipped with synchronized tremolo or Floyd Rose guitars use a 10.2mm F-space.
