J.Michael ATR-150A Bugle (Signal Horn) Bugles are signal bugles that add color to local festivals and have their origins in military signal bugles. This is a three-wound, G-tuned s ignal horn that continues that tradition. The thick, powerful tone unique to G major will add a touch of elegance to festivals and fanfares. ■Bugle The history of the Bugle began as a military signal bugle. In the military, when an action was to be taken, a bugle player would send orders to his troops by blowing fanfares such as "bugle to wake up" or "bugle to charge." The goal was to transmit a loud sound over long distances, so the key of G was chosen because it produces a thick, strong, and direct sound. Basically, it is a straight pipe wound into two or three pieces. Since it does not have a valve like a piston or rotary, the only sound it can produce is G harmonics. Later, the bugle spread to general musical activities, particularly marching bands, and variations such as the soprano bugle and tenor bugle were added. Because instruments in G key are difficult to handle in terms of pitch, instruments in the same key as currently popular instruments are increasingly being used even in marching bands in the United States.
