Mel Taylor Signature Snare Drum This signature snare drum features an all-maple shell with a unique edge shape, and is based on the sound of vintage Gretsch drums, with Mel Taylor' s own personal touch. Its distinctive features include a comfortable rim shot, short sustain, and tight projection. The drum used by Mel wasn't a prototype, but a commercially available drum kit with the exact same specifications, allowing for a faithful reproduction of the original sound, which is one of the reasons for its popularity. Its ease of use has earned it a following not only among Ventures fans, but also among a wide audience. It is the best snare drum that I have ever used. The tone quality is great, the hardware is excellent. Not only is the tone great, but it has a lot of volume, and is clean & clear. I used it for the first time this month in the studio, and everyone remarked how great it sounded. Mel Taylor "This is the best snare I've ever played. The sound is fantastic and the parts are beautiful. Not only does it have great tone, it's also got loads of volume and a pure, clean tone. I played it for the first time in the studio this month and everyone there was amazed at how great it sounded." *The above is a recommendation that Mel wrote for this snare drum during his 1993 Japan tour.
