In addition to the standard OCD Ge, the following special color schemes have been applied as a special edition for Japan. [Black powder coat finish] The chassis features a deep black finish achieved with a stone black powder coat. [Matte Black Knob] Special edition matte black control knobs. [High-gloss text] High-gloss text that enhances contrast. ---------------- The OCD is an extremely open-sounding overdrive/distortion circuit that differs significantly from typical overdrives in that it uses a MOSFET for clipping, and the clipping is connected to the circuit's voltage reference (vref) rather than ground. As a result, whether you pick softly or hard, you get a more interactive sound compared to conventional diode-to-ground clipping overdrives. The OCD provides touch sensitivity and nuance while preserving the original tone of the amp or guitar you're playing, and creates complex harmonics. Due to its immense output, the OCD is an excellent pedal for use as an overdrive in front of an amp, or run through a master-volume amp to drive it much harder than other ODs, but it also excels at creating its own unique distortion with the complex harmonic array of a Class A amp. Another major appeal is that you can access the middle ground sound simply by turning down your guitar's volume control. OCD-Ge differs from other OCD versions in the following ways: Germanium Diodes: Matched germanium diode pairs are used together with MOSFET pairs. This not only broadens the clipping threshold, but the clipping takes on the "soft knee" characteristic of germanium diodes, giving it a vacuum tube-like feel and emphasizing the octave-up harmonics. Audio (Log) Taper Volume Pot: Early OCDs featured an Audio Taper Volume Pot, which allowed you to change the point at which the volume is produced when you rotate the volume knob. The CS-OCD-Ge has a slightly louder volume than the regular OCD, so it uses an Audio Taper. By using an Audio Taper, fine adjustments can be made in the lower third of the pot's rotation. More open sound: Thanks to the soft characteristics of germanium diodes, the internal values are fine-tuned to allow more high frequencies to pass through.
