The RAT, which first appeared in the late 1970s and remains a staple in the lineup to this day, boasts consistent popularity. This is the Rat II, popular for its LED lighting and ease of use. This model is from the era when flat, unsloped housings were used. A distinctive feature of this period is the right-hand opening battery box, similar to the small case/black face model. While there is some cloudiness around the control knobs and some paint chipping around the edges of the back case, this unit is relatively clean, exuding the feel of vintage equipment. The op-amp IC is a Motorola LM308N, and the buffer circuit uses two Motorola 2N5458 FETs. This is an appealing model that combines a comfortable tone with a tight midrange and a clear, well-defined drive that is reminiscent of the Blackface era.
