Ovation is well known for its bowl-shaped body-back electric acoustic guitars, but in the 1970s it also became known for producing unique solid-body models such as the Breadwinner, Deacon, Viper, Preacher, and Magnum Bass. The Magnum Bass series is available in versions 1 to 4. Version 1 is a passive bass with a single cutaway body, version 2 is equipped with a graphic equalizer (1), version 3 is a passive bass with a double cutaway body shape, and version 4 is equipped with a graphic equalizer (3). The Magnum bass that has just arrived has been modified to a passive specification by removing the graphic equalizer from the Version 4. 【body】 The overall weight is approximately 4.4 kg. The body is made of high-quality mahogany. The basic specifications of the double-cutaway body and detachable neck make the most of the mahogany's sophisticated coloring. The graphic equalizer has been removed and a new pickguard has been installed. There are some minor dents, traces of the strap pin being moved on the back, a missing control knob plate, and some tarnish on the metal parts, but the guitar is in relatively good condition. The set screw for the front pickup ring has been replaced. 【neck】 The neck is made of mahogany. The fingerboard is made of ebony. There is some paint peeling on the back of the neck, but it is in relatively good condition. The tuners are wound evenly and function well. The frets and nut have only slight wear, but playability is good. The nut width is 41.8mm. The neck shape is sturdy. [Electrical system] It has now been converted to passive configuration, with controls including a 3-way pickup selector, 2 volumes, and 2 tones. The neck pickup uses a fixed resistor to adjust the output of each string individually, while the bridge pickup has separate coils for strings 1-2 and 3-4 to cancel hum. As mentioned above, the graphic equalizer has been removed and the guitar has been modified to passive configuration. The pot, capacitor, switch, and output jack have been replaced for improved ease of use.
