Cannibal by Harner, Michael J Format: Hardcover with Dust JacketPublished by Morrow, 1979 This novel by anthropologists Michael Harner and Alfred Meyer explores Aztec cannibalism i n the context of the Spanish Conquest. It explores the thesis that Aztec human sacrifice and large-scale cannibalism was a necessary, pragmatic response to chronic protein deficiency. It argues this massive ritual consumption of human flesh arose due to a lack of domesticated herbivorous mammals in Mesoamerica.Product image is for illustration purposes only and may not be an exact representation of the product offered for sale.
