It lifts the finished floor off the surface below, creating a level walking surface over a sloped roof or uneven patio while water drains freely underneath and the surface below stays accessible. Do pedestals damage a roof membrane? Nothing penetrates the surface. The pedestals rest on top of it, and any tile can be lifted out for roof inspection or access. How many pedestals do I need? Each 24" tile is supported at 7 points: four corners, a midpoint on each side edge, and one in the center. Corner pedestals are shared between four neighboring tiles and side midpoints between two, but the center support belongs to that tile alone. Across a full deck this works out to roughly 3 pedestals per tile. Our tile estimator calculates the exact count for your area and adds a 10% buffer for installation. Which height should I choose? Measure from your finished floor height down to the surface at both the highest and lowest point of the area. Choose the height range that covers that full span.
