BALANCE reduces a landscape to its essence: a soft aqua sky, a gently curving band of vivid green and a deep red earth. The paint is spread with a palette knife over a dark ground, which shows through the layers and gives the colours their depth. The curve of the hill recalls both the English countryside and the soft profile of a dune, a quiet meeting point between two places. Calm and grounded, its square format brings a sense of stillness to a study, a bedroom or a quiet corner of the living room.
