Barsol Pisco Quebranta 2L is a traditional Peruvian pisco made from 100% Quebranta grapes, bottled at 41.3% ABV in a large-format 2-liter size. Awarded 92 points by Wine Enthusiast and ranked the number-one top-selling Peruvian pisco by Drinks International, this expression has become a benchmark for the puro style of pisco. Quick Facts: ABV: 41.3% | Origin: Ica Valley, Peru | Style: Puro (Non-Aromatic) | Distillery: Bodega San Isidro Production & Heritage Bodega San Isidro sits in Peru's Ica Valley, one of five designated pisco-producing regions along the country's southern coast. The bodega was revived in 2002 after lying dormant for 34 years, blending modern equipment — such as a bladder press replacing the original basket presses — with hands-on, traditional distillation practices. Barsol Quebranta is pot-distilled once in alembic copper stills and taken directly to bottle proof, meaning no water or additives of any kind are introduced after distillation. This single-distillation-to-proof method preserves the full aromatic intensity of the Quebranta grape, a non-aromatic variety descended from the Listán Prieto grape brought to Peru by Spanish colonists centuries ago. Tasting Notes Aroma: Faintly smoky pear and dried banana open the nose, followed by layers of hay, cut grass, and apricot blossom. Deeper inspection reveals crusty white baguette and a subtle raspberry jam sweetness. Taste: The entry is clean and gently sweet, with vanilla custard cream biscuit and green grape character. The mid-palate expands into ripe dark berry fruit and pecan nuttiness before cracked black pepper spice arrives at the peak, grounding the sweetness with earthy mineral tones. Finish: Medium in length with a creamy vanilla and ripe pear fade accented by white pepper warmth. Lingering biscuit and raspberry notes close out a balanced, moderately dry conclusion. How to Drink Barsol Quebranta Neat or lightly chilled, Barsol Quebranta reveals its full grape-driven character without dilution — a small amount of ice can open up the pear and mineral notes for those who prefer a cooler serve. Its clean, dry profile and the convenience of the 2L format make it especially well-suited to cocktail preparation. A Pisco Sour is the essential starting point, where the spirit's minerality and pepper spice cut through egg white and citrus with precision. In a Chilcano, ginger ale and lime amplify the fresh green apple and grass notes. For a richer serve, a Pisco Punch allows the vanilla custard and ripe fruit character to meld with pineapple gum syrup. Barsol Quebranta is a clean, moderately dry pisco with flavors of green grape, vanilla custard biscuit, ripe pear, and cracked black pepper. Earthy mineral tones and subtle dark berry fruit add complexity beneath its approachable surface. How does Barsol Quebranta compare to Portón Pisco? Portón uses a mosto verde process — distilling partially fermented grape must — which tends to produce a sweeter, more viscous spirit. Barsol Quebranta follows the traditional puro method with fully fermented Quebranta grapes, resulting in a drier, more mineral-driven profile. Is Barsol Quebranta good for cocktails? Barsol Quebranta is widely regarded as one of the top cocktail piscos available, with its clean distillation profile and balanced pepper spice providing structure in sours, chilcanos, and punch-style drinks. The 2L format is specifically designed for efficient high-volume batching. Where is Barsol Quebranta made? Barsol Quebranta is produced at Bodega San Isidro in Peru's Ica Valley, one of the country's five officially designated pisco-producing appellations along the southern coast. The bodega was reestablished in 2002 after a 34-year hiatus. What foods pair well with Barsol Quebranta? Ceviche is a natural companion — the spirit's citrus-like acidity mirrors the dish's lime-forward profile. Grilled shrimp or octopus complement its smoky pear and mineral notes. Fresh goat cheese highlights the vanilla custard character, while roasted almonds echo the pecan nuttiness on the mid-palate. Lightly spiced empanadas play well against the white pepper finish. What sizes does Barsol Quebranta come in? Barsol Pisco Quebranta is available in a standard 750ml bottle and this large-format 2L bottle, which is designed for high-volume use in cocktail programs and entertaining. Is Barsol Quebranta worth the price? Barsol Quebranta positions as a premium pisco that consistently over-delivers for its category, holding a 92-point Wine Enthusiast score and recognition as the top-selling Peruvian pisco worldwide. The 2L format provides additional per-pour value for anyone regularly making pisco-based cocktails. Why Barsol Quebranta? Few piscos carry the combination of critical acclaim, commercial success, and traditional production credentials that Barsol Quebranta holds. Its single distillation to bottle proof — with no water or additives — is a defining feature that separates it from many competitors who adjust their spirit post-distillation. The 92-point Wine Enthusiast score and Drinks International's ranking as the world's top-selling Peruvian pisco reflect a product that satisfies both critics and bartenders. In the 2L format, it becomes a practical workhorse for anyone serious about building cocktails around authentic Peruvian pisco.
