Dicksonia antarctica Dicksonia antarctica starts as a crown of fronds close to the ground. Over many years, living roots and old leaf bases build up around a much slimmer central s tem and form the thick fibrous trunk. New fronds unfurl from the centre and arch outward. Mosses and small plants can also grow on the damp fibrous trunk of an established tree fern. Show more
