Compact Camera Development with ESP32-CAM Build Wi-Fi image-capture and connected monitoring projects with the OpenELAB ESP32-CAM kit. This package combines an ESP32-CAM board, an OV2640 2MP camera and an ESP32-CAM-MB Micro USB programming adapter. The removable programming base makes it easier to connect the board to a computer without a separate USB-to-UART converter. This is a programmable electronics kit, not a preconfigured surveillance camera. Image streaming, local recording and recognition experiments require compatible firmware and configuration. What This Kit Includes 1 x ESP32-CAM development board. 1 x OV2640 camera module. 1 x ESP32-CAM-MB Micro USB-to-serial programming base, listed with a CH340 USB-to-UART interface. SKU: TB-ESP32-CAM-K. OV5640, OV3660 and night-vision packages mentioned in the supplier's wider catalog are not included in this listing. A USB cable, microSD card, enclosure and external antenna are not listed as included. Key Features OV2640 camera: captures images up to 1600 x 1200 pixels, with JPEG support for memory-efficient image handling. Wi-Fi connectivity: upload images or develop a local-network camera interface using a 2.4GHz network. 4MB PSRAM: additional working memory for camera buffers alongside the ESP32's internal SRAM. MicroSD/TF slot: add removable storage for projects with suitable recording firmware. Onboard white illumination LED: provides visible supplementary light; it is not evidence of infrared night vision. Header connections: integrate the board into a larger project after checking shared camera, storage and boot pins. Specifications Platform ESP32-CAM with ESP32-S module Processor Dual-core 32-bit ESP32, up to 240MHz Flash / PSRAM 4MB flash (32Mbit); 4MB external PSRAM Internal SRAM 520KB at chip level; application-available memory is lower Camera OV2640, 2MP class, up to 1600 x 1200 Wireless 2.4GHz Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n; Bluetooth 4.2 BR/EDR and BLE Wi-Fi modes Station, SoftAP and combined Station/SoftAP Storage MicroSD/TF card slot; existing configuration specifies cards up to 4GB Power / logic 5V board supply; 3.3V GPIO logic Programming connection Micro USB via the included ESP32-CAM-MB base Expansion functions UART, SPI, I2C and PWM, subject to pin availability Board footprint Approximately 40 x 27mm; allow extra clearance for camera, headers and programming base Getting Started and Compatibility Use ESP-IDF or Arduino-ESP32 with a camera configuration matching the board revision. Espressif's camera driver supports the ESP32 and OV2640. Enable PSRAM and begin with modest-resolution JPEG capture before increasing the image size or streaming load. Connect the programming base using a data-capable Micro USB cable and install the appropriate USB-to-serial driver if your computer requires it. Use stable 5V power: Wi-Fi transmission and the white LED increase supply demand, and inadequate power can cause resets or capture failures. Do not apply 5V logic directly to GPIO pins. The camera, SD interface and onboard LED share limited board resources. Check the exact pin map before adding sensors or enabling SD recording. A firmware pin map for an ESP32-S3 camera board is not interchangeable with this ESP32-CAM. The onboard PCB antenna is the default connection described for this board. Where an external antenna connector is fitted, selecting it may require changing a small RF selection resistor. Connecting an antenna alone does not necessarily activate it; confirm the PCB revision and use qualified soldering assistance if modification is needed. Software Resources Espressif Camera Driver and Examples Espressif ESP32 Datasheet Frequently Asked Questions Is this a 3MP or 5MP camera kit? No. This listing includes an OV2640 2MP-class camera. Higher-resolution sensors in the supplier's series description do not change the included hardware. Does it have infrared night vision? No infrared night-vision configuration is confirmed for this kit. The visible white LED can illuminate nearby subjects, but does not provide invisible infrared illumination or guarantee images in complete darkness. Do I need another USB programmer? The listed ESP32-CAM-MB adapter provides the USB-to-serial connection. You still need a compatible data cable and development software; driver installation or boot-mode steps may be necessary. Will it stream at its maximum resolution continuously? Not necessarily. Frame rate depends on image size, JPEG quality, memory use, firmware and Wi-Fi conditions. The sensor's maximum still-image resolution is not a video frame-rate guarantee. Does it work immediately as a cloud security camera? No cloud service or ready-made surveillance application is promised. You must install and configure software. Recording requires suitable storage, and remote access should be secured rather than exposing an unprotected camera directly to the internet.
