Story behind the Lens In the heart of the bustling marketplace in Frankenmuth, Michigan, I found a moment of profound stillness. This fine art portrait features Kira, a majestic Eurasian Eagle-Owl (Bubo bubo). On December 21, 2025, Kira was on display to raise awareness for Christiane’s Exotic Parrotdise—a dedicated bird sanctuary providing lifelong care for exotic birds in need. While the world moved quickly around us, Kira remained a silent, commanding presence. This photograph captures his incredible detail and calm spirit, serving as a striking bridge between the observer and the natural world. Composition This wildlife study focuses on the "silent majesty" of the world’s largest owl species. The composition emphasizes the intricate patterns of Kira’s plumage and the distinctive, prominent ear tufts that define his silhouette. By isolating Kira against a soft, winter-blurred backdrop, the focus is directed entirely to his piercing gaze and the "tiger" stripes of his feathers. The natural, low-winter light highlights the fiery depth of his eyes, creating an intimate connection that is often impossible to experience in the wild. Fine Art Quality To capture the complex patterns of Kira’s plumage and the intense color of his eyes with gallery-level precision, I personally print each piece using the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1100. Artisan Textured (Palo Duro Etching 315): My top recommendation for this portrait. The heavy, watercolor-like texture adds a tangible, lifelike dimension to the feathers and tufts, making the owl feel present in the room. Vibrant Metallic (Polar Luster Metallic 255): Adds a pearlescent shimmer to the intricate feather patterns, mimicking the way light catches the edges of a bird in flight. Standard Matte (Polar Matte 230): A clean, glare-free archival surface that ensures every fine "tiger" stripe remains crisp and reflection-free under any lighting. Starting at $45.00. Bottom Left: A Glimpse of Kira Bottom Right: TPegg | 21 Dec 2025 Artist’s Note "Kira has a commanding presence, yet there is a quiet shyness to him. I waited for that specific moment on a cold Michigan day when he settled on his perch and the light caught his features just right. This piece is part of my Sanctuary Series—10% of all proceeds from this print are donated directly to support Christiane's Exotic Parrotdise and their mission of providing a forever home to birds like Kira. It’s my way of ensuring that his beauty contributes back to the protection of his kind."
