Centuries ago, pepper was so valuable and rare that it was even used as currency. In abundant supply now and one of the world's most popular spices, it is a berry that grows in gra pelike clusters on the pepper plant. White pepper is preferred as a seasoning for a vast array of food and dishes including soups, stews and sandwiches - for its sharp and zingy flavour. It is also preferred in light coloured sauces and foods like mashed potato to provide a better aesthetic. It can be used to flavour and tropicalise both sweet and savoury dishes.
