Here is what to know before your first use: Condition the rope before first use — new hemp rope is stiff and scratchy; boil for 20 minutes, allow to dry completely, then run through your hands repeatedly to soften the fibres Learn basic knots before attempting restraint — practice single-column tie, double-column tie, and the basic chest harness knot independently before using them in a scene Never tie around the neck, over joints, or near nerves — rope should never compress the neck, the inside of the elbow, the back of the knee, or the inner wrist where nerves run close to the surface Keep safety scissors within arm's reach at all times — in an emergency, rope must be removable in seconds; medical-grade safety scissors can cut hemp rope instantly Check for numbness, tingling, or colour change every 5 minutes — regularly check restrained limbs for circulation; numbness or colour change means release immediately Rope length determines what ties are possible — 6-metre (20ft) lengths are standard for most single-limb ties; longer lengths (8–10m) enable full body harnesses For more guidance, see: Beginner's Guide to Adult Products in Canada.
