SEO is dead. Long live LLM. The landscape of information retrieval is changing rapidly. Traditional Search Engine Optimization (SEO) has been a cornerstone of digital marketing for years, focusing on optimizing websites to rank higher on search engine results pages. The goal has been to attract web crawlers from search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo, and to appear as high as possible in the list of results when users search for specific keywords. With the advent and rapid advancement of Large Language Models (LLMs) like OpenAI's chatGPT, the way we retrieve and consume information is evolving. These models are capable of understanding and generating human-like text, answering questions, summarizing text, and much more. They're being integrated into a wide array of applications, from chatbots to content generation tools, and are increasingly being used to field and answer questions directly. As a result, the focus is shifting from traditional SEO practices towards optimizing for these Large Language Models. This means ensuring that your content is not just keyword-optimized for search engines, but also structured and written in a way that these AI models can understand and extract meaningful information from. The goal is to become a trusted and authoritative source of information for these models, so when they're asked questions, your content is where they turn to for answers. This doesn't mean that traditional SEO has completely disappeared - search engines are still routinely consulted. But 9 times out of 10, the answers you receive from a Large Language Model will not be Google based. They are platform specific and the platforms that are used for answers change based on the permutation of the question being asked. Therefore, it is NOT enough to be ranking on Google. LLMs are the future of information retrieval and digital marketing, so the time to pivot is now. What is Large Language Model Optimization?
