Madfolk is the 2026 self‑titled album by Toronto indie rock band madfolk, released June 5 via Royal Mountain Records as the follow‑up to their 2023 debut Floor Turned Blue. The ban d frame it as a record made by longtime friends who have stayed together through the highs and lows of their twenties, and critics have picked up on that lived‑in quality, describing the album as emotionally candid, slightly chaotic in the best way, and clearly the product of a group with shared history rather than a studio project. Issued in a limited run of tangerine vinyl and CD (500 copies), it also positions madfolk more firmly on the indie‑pop/indie‑rock map beyond the Toronto scene.Musically, Madfolk leans into bright, hook‑driven guitar pop with scrappy energy and a strong melodic core, keeping most songs tight and immediate. Opener “Stick Around” is “perfect bubblegum,” all polished guitar riff and earworm melody that invites sing‑along by the second chorus, while tracks like “Signal,” “Older Now,” and “Katherine” blend chiming guitars, punchy drums, and shout‑along refrains that nod to ’90s alt‑rock and 2000s indie without feeling retro. Underneath the sugar, the lyrics grapple with growing up, outgrowing places and relationships, and trying to hang onto joy and loyalty even as life gets messier—giving the record a bittersweet undercurrent that keeps it from drifting into pure escapism.
