Because both drivers radiate from the same point in space, the SourcePoint 8 behaves like a true single source, producing a stable, focused image and unusually even dispersion across a wide listening area.Engineering choices support that goal at every step. The rear-ported cabinet is voiced for a natural low frequency extension to 47Hz, while the concentric layout eliminates the vertical lobing and time smear that separate tweeter and woofer arrangements can introduce. With 87dB sensitivity, an 8 ohm nominal impedance and a 6.4 ohm minimum, the SourcePoint 8 is an approachable load that scales gracefully as you improve the electronics feeding it. Real wood veneer finishes give the cabinet a refined, furniture-grade presence. This is a passive loudspeaker, so it requires a separate amplifier to make sound. It suits listeners who want the coherence and disappearing act of a point-source design in a compact stand mount, whether for a dedicated two-channel room, a nearfield desktop system, or as the front pair of a MoFi based music setup.Key Features Andrew Jones concentric point-source driver for true single-source coherence 8 inch mid-bass cone with a 1.25 inch soft-dome tweeter at its acoustic center Wide, even dispersion that widens the usable listening area 87dB sensitivity with an easy 8 ohm nominal load, 6.4 ohm minimum Rear-ported cabinet tuned for low frequency extension to 47Hz Real wood veneer finishes for a furniture-grade appearance Two-way passive design that scales with better amplification Compact stand-mount format suited to two-channel and nearfield use How the SourcePoint 8 ComparesMoFi SourcePoint 8 vs MoFi SourcePoint 10 Master EditionThe SourcePoint 10 Master Edition sits higher in the MoFi range with a larger 10 inch concentric driver and an upgraded crossover, offering greater scale, deeper low end reach and more effortless dynamics in bigger rooms. The SourcePoint 8 shares the same point-source philosophy in a more compact cabinet that is easier to place and better suited to nearfield or smaller spaces. Choose the 10 Master Edition when the room and amplifier can exploit its extra output and refinement, and the 8 when a tidier footprint matters. See the MoFi SourcePoint 10 Master Edition.MoFi SourcePoint 8 vs Spendor A1.2The Spendor A1.2 follows the British tradition of a smaller mid-bass driver and a separate tweeter, voiced for an intimate, midrange-forward presentation in compact rooms. The SourcePoint 8 takes a different route with its concentric point-source driver, prioritizing pinpoint imaging and wide, even dispersion across the room. Both are refined stand mounts; the choice comes down to whether you favor the Spendor's classic voicing or the MoFi's coherent, single-source soundstage. See the Spendor A1.2.MoFi SourcePoint 8 vs Amphion Argon 1The Amphion Argon 1 uses a waveguide-loaded tweeter and controlled directivity to manage room reflections in a very compact box. The SourcePoint 8 pursues coherence through its concentric layout, delivering a larger and more open image from a bigger 8 inch driver. Consider the Amphion for tight spaces and reflection control, and the SourcePoint 8 when you want scale and the disappearing act of a point-source design. See the Amphion Argon 1.Recommended Amplification and SourceThe SourcePoint 8 is passive and MoFi does not make amplifiers, so pair it with a quality amplifier from our catalog. It is revealing and easy to drive, so it rewards clean, capable electronics and a strong analog front end. Luxman L-505Z Integrated Amplifier A refined, musical integrated that suits the SourcePoint 8's easy load and lets the concentric driver's coherence and detail come through with a smooth, natural character. Yamaha A-S2200 Integrated Amplifier A well-built integrated with ample control and a clean, precise presentation that pairs neatly with the SourcePoint 8's revealing nature in a single-box solution. Accuphase E-3000 Integrated Amplifier A powerful, high-current integrated that gives the SourcePoint 8 plenty of headroom, so the speaker scales to its full dynamic and tonal potential. MoFi UltraDeck Turntable A natural analog source for the SourcePoint 8, this belt-drive MoFi deck offers a stable, low-noise foundation that suits the speaker's clarity and imaging. MoFi MasterTracker MM Cartridge MoFi's top moving magnet cartridge paired with a MoFi phono stage completes a coherent MoFi analog front end that flatters the SourcePoint 8's detail and dynamics. Frequently Asked QuestionsIs the SourcePoint 8 a powered or passive speaker? It is a passive loudspeaker. It requires a separate amplifier to make sound, and MoFi does not make amplifiers, so you will pair it with an integrated amplifier or a preamplifier and power amplifier. What makes the concentric point-source driver special? The 1.25 inch soft-dome tweeter sits at the acoustic center of the 8 inch mid-bass cone, so both radiate from the same point. This produces a true single source with focused imaging and wide, even dispersion.Who designed the SourcePoint 8?The SourcePoint speakers were designed by Andrew Jones, built around his concentric point-source driver. What amplifier power does it need? With 87dB sensitivity and an easy 8 ohm nominal load, it does not demand extreme power, but it scales with quality amplification. A capable integrated or separates from our catalog will let it perform at its best. How low does the SourcePoint 8 play? Its low frequency extension reaches 47Hz thanks to the rear-ported cabinet. Is it a difficult load to drive? No. It presents an 8 ohm nominal impedance with a 6.4 ohm minimum, which is a manageable load for most quality amplifiers.Does the cabinet use a front or rear port?It uses a rear port, so allow some breathing room behind the speakers for the best low frequency performance. What finishes are available? The SourcePoint 8 is offered in real wood veneer finishes for a refined, furniture-grade look. Are these good for nearfield or desktop listening?Yes. The point-source design gives a coherent image at close range, making the SourcePoint 8 well suited to nearfield and smaller-room setups as well as a main two-channel system.Do I need speaker stands? As a stand-mount design, it performs best on rigid stands that place the concentric driver near ear height at the listening position. How does it compare to the SourcePoint 10 Master Edition? The SourcePoint 10 Master Edition is higher in the range with a larger concentric driver and an upgraded crossover for more scale and output, while the SourcePoint 8 offers the same point-source coherence in a more compact, easier-to-place cabinet. Can I use these as front speakers in a music system?Yes. The SourcePoint 8 works well as the main pair in a dedicated two-channel system paired with a quality amplifier and source. What source do you recommend for vinyl?A MoFi turntable such as the UltraDeck with a MoFi phono stage and the MasterTracker cartridge makes a natural, coherent analog front end for the SourcePoint 8.Does it come with grilles?Yes, removable grilles are included, and you can listen with or without them to suit your preference. Is the SourcePoint 8 sold as a pair?Yes, it is offered as a pair of loudspeakers. Will it work in a larger room?It can, though larger rooms and higher volume goals may favor a bigger model in the range such as the SourcePoint 10 Master Edition for extra output and low frequency reach.Does MoFi include an amplifier or receiver with these? No. MoFi does not make amplifiers or receivers, so you will choose a separate amplifier to power the SourcePoint 8.What integrated amplifiers pair well? From our catalog, the Luxman L-505Z, Yamaha A-S2200 and Accuphase E-3000 are all strong matches that suit the speaker's easy load and reveal its detail and imaging. How much space behind the speaker do I need?Because it is rear-ported, give it some distance from the wall and experiment with placement to balance low frequency output and imaging. Why buy from All Elite Audio? All Elite Audio is an authorized MoFi Electronics dealer in Maryland, so your SourcePoint 8 arrives new with full manufacturer support and the five year parts and labor warranty for the original owner.
