Authentic Filipino Laing, Taro Leaves Slow-Cooked in Coconut CreamLaing is one of the great dishes of Bicol, a region in the Philippines that has given the world some of its most boldly flavoured food. Moondish captures that tradition in every 155g tin: tender dried taro leaves slowly cooked down in rich coconut cream, absorbing every bit of flavour until the result is thick, creamy, and deeply satisfying. The texture is soft without being mushy, and the taste carries that distinctive earthy quality of taro balanced by the natural sweetness of the coconut. It is a dish that takes hours to prepare from scratch, and having it ready in a tin means you can bring that homemade depth to the table on any weeknight. Whether you grew up eating laing at family gatherings or are trying it for the first time, this is a genuine, traditional preparation with no shortcuts. Explore our wider range of Filipino grocery products and canned goods to find more authentic flavours stocked and ready for UK delivery. How to Serve Moondish Laing, Simple Ideas for a Hearty Filipino MealThe simplest and most satisfying way to serve laing is straight over steamed white rice. Heat the tin gently in a saucepan over a medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, and spoon generously over a bowl of freshly cooked rice. The coconut cream sauce soaks into the rice beautifully, making every mouthful rich and filling. For a more complete spread, serve alongside grilled fish, fried pork, or a simple vegetable stir-fry. Laing also works well as a side dish in a Filipino kamayan-style feast, placed on banana leaves alongside other dishes for sharing. If you enjoy a bit of heat, add a pinch of dried chilli to the pan while warming it through. Leftover laing reheats well the next day and, like many coconut-based dishes, often tastes even better once the flavours have had more time to settle. Pair it with something from our seasoning and ingredients range to round out the meal.
