Introducing coding to younger kids can be daunting if you’re not sure how to move beyond screens. Osmo’s Coding Starter Kit combines physical coding blocks with a tablet app so kids arrange tiles on the table to control on‑screen characters. Developed by a team focused on blended play, it turns basic sequencing, loops, and logic into a tangible, puzzle‑like game. We love how kids can experiment by literally moving pieces around and immediately seeing what happens. It’s ideal for roughly ages 5–10, especially hands‑on learners and families who prefer limited, purposeful screen time. You do need a compatible tablet and some table space, which can be a barrier, but the kit itself is reusable across siblings. Pro tip: sit nearby for the first few sessions and encourage kids to verbalize their “plan” before placing blocks—this helps them transfer the logic to other coding tools later.
