You play as James Chase, an American pilot recruited into the Battlehawks - a fictional elite Allied squadron given the most dangerous assignments of the war. Across 30 air-to-air and ground-attack missions spanning 15 theatres, you'll relive the Evacuation of Dunkirk, the Battle of Britain, Midway, and the D-Day landings, flying more than 20 authentic aircraft including the P-38 Lightning, P-51 Mustang, and the experimental Me 163 Komet rocket plane. Rather than aiming for hardcore simulation or pure arcade chaos, the game deliberately sits in between - accessible controls paired with a genuine sense of history and character-driven storytelling. The presentation is a real highlight - a 110-piece orchestral score from composer Michael Giacchino gives every mission real cinematic weight, and sound effects were recorded from actual restored WWII aircraft engines for authenticity. A fun Star Wars easter egg lets you unlock the X-Wing and TIE Fighter as flyable aircraft, a nice nod to the developer's pedigree.
