Sonance Cinema Series In-Wall Speakers The Sonance Reference Series represents a comprehensive range of in-wall and in-ceiling speakers and subwoofers engineered specifically for home theatre — media rooms and dedicated cinema spaces where surround sound performance, not compromise, is the brief. Built around fourth-generation coaxial driver technology and enhanced by Klippel II optimisation, the Reference Series is designed to disappear into the architecture of a room while doing nothing of the sort acoustically. Coaxial Driver Technology The fourth-generation coaxial drivers at the heart of the Reference Series are the defining engineering choice. By mounting the tweeter at the acoustic centre of the woofer cone, Klippel II-enhanced coaxial design achieves precise stereo imaging and clear, consistent dialogue reproduction — the two qualities a home cinema system most routinely sacrifices when speakers are hidden in walls. Individual crossover networks are fitted to each model in the range, ensuring that frequency division is handled with accuracy rather than approximation. Driver materials are chosen for stiffness and low mass: carbon fibre and Rohacell laminated cones with rubber surrounds across the woofer complement, and ceramic dome tweeters — Ferrofluid-cooled and mounted in acoustic back chambers — handling high frequencies. The result is a driver combination that resists breakup at the frequencies where lesser materials would colour the sound. Integrated Enclosures Every Reference Series speaker ships with an integrated enclosure. This is not a detail — an in-wall speaker without a proper enclosure is at the mercy of whatever cavity sits behind the plasterboard, which varies unpredictably between rooms. Sonance's integrated enclosure controls the acoustic load on the driver, delivers the performance the crossover was designed around, and substantially reduces sound transmission into adjoining rooms. The speaker performs as specified, regardless of what is behind the wall. A Range Built for Flexibility The Reference Series covers every position in a surround sound layout. LCR models are available in small and large in-wall configurations, with surround channel variants for each size. In-ceiling options extend coverage to overhead channels. Subwoofer systems — both the R10 with DSP amplification and the R12 with PowerZone Connect amplification — complete the range, with driver and enclosure available separately for custom installations. A gloss black cabinet speaker, the R1CAB, is available where an in-wall installation is not possible. Compatible models are designed to mix and match, so a system can be assembled for any room geometry. The Reference Series is optimised for television, films, gaming, and concerts — content types that each make different demands on a loudspeaker, and that the Klippel II-tuned drivers handle within a single consistent installation. For those considering alternatives in the custom installation speaker category, our range also includes the Procella P8iCW in-wall speaker and the Procella P8, both of which pair well with subwoofer solutions such as the Procella P18 or the Procella P15. Who Is It For? The Sonance Reference Series is for the home cinema installer — professional or serious enthusiast — who needs a complete, architecturally integrated speaker system that performs without visible compromise. It suits dedicated media rooms and home theatres where the brief is full surround sound coverage, flush installation, and acoustic performance that does not ask the room's occupants to make allowances. Those specifying a single in-wall speaker rather than a complete system should discuss the specific model configuration with us directly. Buying from Martins Hi-Fi Martins Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968. Elizabeth Gould runs the business today, and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind. We can demonstrate in-wall speaker performance at our Norwich showroom and advise on the right configuration for your room and system. When you get in touch, you'll be speaking with Dave, Chris, and our Product Links specialists — experienced in custom installation and able to advise across the full system. Contact us at [email protected], call 01603 627010, or WhatsApp on 07554 687137. You can read more about how we work on our Why Martins Hi-Fi page. We are at 85–91 Ber Street, Norwich, NR1 3EY.
