After releasing three albums in five years, the Strokes spent the second half of the aughts in hibernation. Frontman Julian Casablancas and guitarist Albert Hammond, Jr. launched s olo careers in the interim, eventually returning to the fold in 2009 to begin work on the Strokes' self-produced fourth album.
