Three essential books to help you understand Te Tiriti, our health system, and how government power works in Aotearoa. Understanding Te Tiriti, a New Zealand #1 bestseller, is a clear and simple handbook explaining what was agreed in Te Tiriti o Waitangi, what happened after 1840, and why it still matters today. Understanding Hauora explains how Te Tiriti and the health system connect, why Māori health inequities persist, and how tino rangatiratanga offers hope for better outcomes for everyone. Understanding Kāwanatanga asks: who actually has power in Aotearoa, and where are decisions made about healthcare, education, housing and the cost of living? In just 32 pages, it explains how laws and government systems shape everyday life, where people can have real influence, and how Te Tiriti limits the power of kāwanatanga. Together, these three books connect the foundations of Te Tiriti with the systems operating around us today. Each book is short, factual and accessible, making complex history, law and government understandable in under an hour. Written by human rights lawyer, educator and bestselling author Roimata Smail in her signature clear and respectful style, the series features original artwork by Ngawai O'Leary, design by Sarah Healey, and TKP design by Noelle Jakeman. This bundle is perfect for schools, workplaces, community groups and whānau who want knowledge they can trust and who believe in building people power through education.
