Word Roots Level 4 Word Roots Level 4 takes vocabulary study beyond memorization and into true word mastery. Designed for older students, this advanced level teaches how Greek and Latin roots, prefixes, and suffixes work together to form the sophisticated vocabulary found in upper-level literature, science, history, standardized tests, and college-preparatory coursework. This 288-page workbook covers an impressive 45 prefixes, 220 roots, 117 suffixes, and 363 vocabulary words. Rather than asking students to memorize long lists of definitions, it equips them with a system for decoding unfamiliar words independently—a skill that becomes increasingly valuable as academic reading grows more challenging. Lessons guide students through defining word parts, spelling and defining vocabulary words, applying words in context, and using newly learned vocabulary in writing. Periodic review sections reinforce previous material and help students retain what they have learned over the long term. By this level, students often begin recognizing roots across multiple subjects. A challenging science term, an unfamiliar literary word, or a difficult SAT-style vocabulary question becomes far less intimidating when they can identify familiar components and use them to determine meaning. The workbook includes a pretest, posttest, review sections, a comprehensive dictionary of roots, prefixes, suffixes, and vocabulary words, along with a complete answer key. Reproducible pages make the program practical for families teaching multiple students. Students who complete Word Roots Level 4 gain more than an expanded vocabulary. They develop a deeper understanding of how language works, stronger reading comprehension, improved spelling, and greater confidence when encountering complex academic language. The writing activities may also count toward one-quarter of high school composition credit.
